“Real World Experiences of Migrating to The Cloud”
Speaker: David Rosengrave (Asia Pacific Practice Manager for IT Solutions, Verizon Business)

Abstract
Whilst there has been a lot of talk about why enterprises should move to the Cloud, less has been communicated about the type of enterprises that are actually migrating to the Cloud. Insight will be provided by leading global Cloud service provider Verizon around the provisioning exercise to transition customers onto the Cloud and a demonstration of the customer experience.

Key issues addressed:

  • What type of organizations are moving to the Cloud and why?
  • How are enterprises migrating on to the Cloud in reality?
  • What is the customer experience of building out resources in the Cloud?

"The Revolution & Evolution of Private Cloud Computing"
Speaker: Edward Chew (Director, Cloud Innovation Centre, Platform Computing)

Abstract
Cloud Computing is ultimately a business model change, not a technology change. It’s a huge shift in how IT departments are meant to operate - by giving users “self-service” IT and the ability to choose what computing resources they need and when they need them. Private Clouds provide a responsive, cost-effective infrastructure model that is meant to decentralize the power of the IT department without taking away control of the department’s overall resources and budget. As private Clouds continue to evolve, it may be that IT purchases and builds the private Cloud, but the users of the Cloud will determine its success. To enjoy the self-service and dynamic resource management of private Clouds and the resulting ROI, organizations must unite a number of component layers, ranging from infrastructure through service delivery. In this session, we’ll discuss how to manage the components of Cloud infrastructures and provide additional resource management capabilities to users while reaping the benefits of lower cost of ownership and increased ROI for both the IT department and lines of business.

Biodata
Edward Chew manages Platform Computing's Cloud Innovation Center (CIC). CIC is setup in collaboration with IDA to promote Cloud Technology adoption among Singapore based enterprises. “The Transformative Passage Towards Cloud: A Pragmatic Roadmap Towards Infrastructure Optimization & IT Liberation”
Speaker: Damian Crotty (President, VIFX)

Abstract
At its heart, Cloud Computing is a new operational and business model for IT application hosting, rather than a new technology. It promises to deliver highly reliable, highly elastic services that respond quickly and smoothly to changing user demand. However, no matter what type of Cloud environment Singaporean customers are considering—a large public Cloud, a customizable hosted Cloud or a private Cloud within their own enterprise — VIFX believe that success depends on having the right technology foundation in place.

In order to achieve this vision, all the component technologies in the data center need to be integrated and delivered as a cohesive and consistent virtualized infrastructure stack, a capability which VIFX leads the way with across Asia. In fact, VIFX believe that the higher the level of integration achieved within the stack, the less time customers will need to spent on managing infrastructure, the more efficient the entire IT environment. This translate into a greater ability for IT to deliver lower cost services, higher availability, faster time to deploy, and improved business continuity the ultimate goal for all clients looking to realise the advantages of this compute platform in the future.

Biodata
Damian Crotty is responsible for the General Management and Expansion of VIFX's International business growth across the Asia Pacific and Japan markets through industry leading consulting and specialist service practices committed to Virtualization and Storage Technologies.

“Data Security in The Cloud”
Speaker: Dr. Ngair Teow-Hin (CEO, SecureAge Technology)

Abstract
Cloud Computing has the potential to transform the IT industry by allowing governments and companies to provide better services while reducing costs. The Cloud allows organizations to dynamically activate and retire resources as needed, and improve efficiency without having to worry about creating new infrastructures for each new application.

However, one major concern for many organizations wanting to move their applications to the Cloud is the security of their data. With business data now residing in the servers that belong to the Cloud service providers, you no longer directly control your own data.

Other than trusting the Cloud service provider to safeguard your confidential business information, we should also consider data protection solutions that allow us to control the access to sensitive information in order to minimize the risk of data breaches.

In this presentation, we discuss some of the viable data protection strategies and technologies that could help to safeguard confidential information in the Cloud, and allowing the businesses to fully leverage the power of Cloud Computing to provide the agility required to move quickly in the highly competitive business environments.

Biodata
Dr. Ngair spent 13 years as a researcher in Kent Ridge Digital Labs (KRDL, now known as Institute for Infocomm Research)  As a Senior Member of Research Staff, he was engaged in R&D works and innovative commercial product development on information security, multi-lingual computing and Artificial Intelligence.

He founded SecureAge Technology in 2003 to focus on creating and commercializing innovative data security solutions.  These solutions are now successfully deployed by various governments and large enterprises in the Asia Pacific region.

Dr Ngair has a Ph.D in Computer science (Univ. of Pennsylvania, USA) and MA, BA in Mathematics (Cambridge, UK).
